Summer storms in South Dakota can move in quickly, bringing lightning, hail, strong winds and sometimes tornadoes. If a storm is forecasted while you are visiting Brookings, here is how to prepare:

🚨 Stay Alert
Use weather apps, NOAA alerts or local radio. If you hear outdoor warning sirens, go indoors immediately.

⛈Ask Staff
Hotels, restaurants, and attractions have safety procedures in place. Ask staff about the best shelter options and follow their guidance.

🚨 Storm Shelter Info
If conditions become dangerous, the City of Brookings may open a public storm shelter at the Brookings City and County Government Center, located downtown at 520 3rd Street. Updates regarding the shelter will be shared on the City of Brookings Government and Brookings Police Department - SD Facebook pages.

The Anderson Plaza Performance Series is back every Tuesday in July at the South Dakota Art Museum!

The FREE live music starts at 6 PM so bring a picnic, chairs or blanket and enjoy the evening. There is plenty of space to relax on the Campus Green or to play yard games. Snacks and drinks are available for purchase.

Free parking is available in nearby lots after 4pm. Anderson Plaza is located behind the museum.
